Postpartum Hair Loss | what worked for me

Tuesday, October 18, 2022

After going through postpartum for a third time and realizing the damage my hair took I decided to look back at what worked for me previously that gave me such lucious hair. I decided to write down each thing and start working towards fixing my hair. I have been working on my hair for about 2 months fully now and had quite the remarkable growth. I decided to up my routine and then update again in 2 months or less.. But so far I can say this has been what's helping my hair get back to how it used to be. Be sure to follow through on any updates!

OILING: I used to sleep at least once a week with coconut oil in my hair. I'd saturate my hair in it and allow it to sit overnight (with a shower cap on) for better soaking. Especially the ends of my hair. I truly believe this gave my hair the most beautiful shine.

BRAIDS: I would keep my hair in braids so much mainly to avoid doing my hair but I didn't realize how much it took care of my hair. I didn't yank it by accident, it helped keep oils in my hair and it gave me gorgeous waves heat-free! It was a perfect go-to when my hair was almost dry or still wet and I wanted to avoid the frizz.

HEATLESS: I avoided blow drying, straightening and curling and whatever else may be. I air dried my hair and I used braids like I said previously for some natural waves. It prevented me also from using too many products in my hair.

TRIMS: You know how they say that hair cuts help with growth? Not exactly true, what it does do is, it helps prevent breakage and therefor the hair appears longer and it looks healthier. A trim every 6-8 weeks is such a game changer! Find a hairdresser you trust for this because unfortunately not many know what a real trim should be.

SILK PILLOWCASE: This helps prevent from breakage indoor sleep. We don't realize how much we actually yank our hair out at night until you see it all over your pillow. Did I mention it's also great for your skin? If you like sleeping with your hair in a soft curl bun, I recommend the silk scrunchies as well.

VITAMINS: I have always been a creature of habit. I love having a routine, and a great set up! I always have my vitamins in one place next to my cups so I always remember to take them. Biotin and Collagen were two of the vitamins I took religiously during this time. I always do my research as to why each vitamin helps, so please do yours as well! Marine Collagen is my personal favorite and Sports Research vitamins have been a favorite for many years now.

WASH: I switched to a natural and sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. At first it was due to hearing all about the waxes those other shampoos had, but once I switched I noticed how much softer my hair felt and I stuck to it since. I should also include in this a clarifying shampoo! Once a week it will help get rid of all dirt and oils your hair gets throughout the days of being outside. It's a good one to start a week with a clean hair do.
